The secrets of the men and women who managed to crack the Enigma code during the Second World War will be retold on stage in a new production at the Redbridge Drama Centre.

Idle Motion will present a stunning new show, That Is All You Need To Know, telling the story of Bletchley Park and the people who worked there to break the encrypted messages used by the German armed forces.

The eccentric country house’s grounds, filled with chess champions, Oxford graduates and young debutantes, was the melting pot of Britain’s greatest minds.

Among these were the visionary Alan Turing and the exceptional Gordon Welchman whose work was the hidden heroism of the war.

Actor Chris Bone, 29, who plays Alan, said: “It’s an honour playing such an unrecognised genius and bring his life and work the wider attention it deserves.

“Whilst many people know the name, there’s still so much of his story as yet untold. It is estimated that his work and that of his colleagues shortened the war by two years and yet it remained a secret for over 30.”

The play is a celebration of human ability to solve the impossible and of the extraordinary people whose quiet work changed the course of our history.

Actor Grace Chapman, 25, added: “What is so unique about this production is that it tells the story of the thousands of women who worked at Bletchley Park, fantastically bright women who, after the war, just had to return to their normal lives due to the secrecy of it all.

“I play one of the female code breakers and it is just such a pleasure to be able to share their achievements with audiences and allow for the recognition they are so overdue.”
