A 1950s hit Broadway musical following the life of a con artist from Iowa will be played out in Redbridge next week.

The music and fun is here with a bang as Ilford Operatic and Dramatic Society present, The Music Man.

Set in 1912, it tells of a charming con man who convinces the citizens of River City to form a boys’ band.

Writer Meredith Willson uses her Iowa home town of Mason City, with its pool hall, footbridge, and annual Band Festival, as the inspiration for the fictional town.

All the spirit and flair of this classic Americana is captured in the show, with songs such as Goodnight, My Someone, Till There Was You, The Wells Fargo Wagon and the irresistible 76 Trombones.

The Music Man is extraordinary warm-hearted, funny and captivating show for the whole family.
