Woodford Town will take their growing following to Walthamstow on Saturday eager to win two battles

Woodford Town make the short trip to Walthamstow in the Essex Senior League this weekend looking to claim bragging rights on and off the pitch.

Dee Safer’s men have had to play home games at Harlow Town’s Harlow Arena this season while work on their Ashtons Playing Fields base takes place.

Although they are miles from the Borough, it has not stopped the Woods building up a strong following and they will be out in force on Saturday.

Town have failed to win any of their last four games, but assistant manager Neil Day said: “Although the boys’ heads were down in the changing room after the Stansted defeat, we have to channel that disappointment into a positive display this weekend.

“We’ve done a lot of publicity ahead of the game and canvassed at tube stations in the local area, so it would be great to have even more support than usual as the two noisiest sets of fans in the Essex Senior League go head-to-head on the terraces.”

Woodford will visit the Stags eager to return to winning ways in the division after a 2-1 loss at home to Stansted on Monday.

Dejaune Taylor-Crossdale put Town ahead, but two late goals by forward Jack West kept high-flying Airportmen at the summit.

The Woods also lost on Friday to Tiptree Jobserve 3-1 in the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy despite a goal from Bailey Brown.

It was Monday’s reverse which left Town frustrated, however, after they produced a fine display against the league leaders before they lost out to a 90th-minute winner,

Day added: “Understandably we were absolutely gutted to lose because we played so well for 80 minutes, but time and time again as a management team we reinforce the fact football is a 90-minute game, and sometimes nearer to a 100, so you have to be switched on for every second.

“Stansted were resilient and found a way to win in the end, so fair play to them and equally that quality is probably the only facet we’re missing from our team.”
