Redfern urges leaders Woodford to maintain focus ahead of Romford clash

Highams club were without a game last weekend
Tom Redfern insists London Two North East leaders Woodford will continue to take things one game at a time ahead of hosting second-placed Romford & Gidea Park this weekend.
Going into Saturday’s meeting between the sides, the Highams club sit seven points clear at the top of the table.
Should Woodford triumph this weekend, they could see their lead extend to as much as 12 points over their nearest rivals at an early stage of the campaign.
Head coach Redfern, though, is not allowing himself to think too far ahead and believes it is key the squad follow suit.

“We were maybe guilty of looking too far ahead when we played Cantabrigians, which could have led to some complacency, but we addressed that ahead of the next game against South Woodham Ferrers,” he said.
“The boys are focussed on taking each game as it comes and it has to continue that way.

“We have good competition for places throughout the team which means the boys can’t get too carried away and their feet remain on the ground.
“That’s the environment we want to create, where we have a team where everyone is challenging each other to start.”
Regardless of what happens this weekend, Woodford know they will still lead the way in the division.
That could ease the pressure on the Highams club this weekend, though they will still want to rack up a ninth straight win.
And Redfern also believes there is a greater pressure on performing well, which the head coach believes will lead to a positive result.
“I know if we perform, the results will come and if we can move further ahead with another win this weekend, then great,” he added.
“We’re preparing for a good experience on Saturday and what should be a tough game.”
Woodford were without a game last weekend, giving them two weeks to prepare for Romford which Redfern is grateful for.
“We’ve had a heavy run of games since the start of the season, so it was good to have the weekend off,” he said.
