Woodford Green athletes lead the charge in Chigwell

Year ends on a high for race winner Tomaz Plibersek
Woodford Green with Essex Ladies runners dominated the field at Ilford AC’s 10-mile cross country event at Chigwell Row on New Year’s Eve, with four finishers placing inside the top six.
In the tough three-lap event Tomaz Plibersek crossed the line in 57 minutes 40 seconds to win – 30 seconds ahead of club-mate and closest challenger Bertie Powell.
Ilford’s Tom Gardner took third place in 60.39, as 131 finished the race. Woodford duo Matt Molloy and Gareth Cavell finished fourth and sixth respectively, while Ilford runners Kevin Newell and Stephen Philcox finished four seconds apart for eighth and ninth spots.
The other finishers for Woodford Green were Andrew Coleman (30th), Robert Quantrell (37th), Steve Lambert (44th), Paul Stockings (53rd), Jenny Thomas (66th), Roger Green (76th), Alex Wardle (86th) and Adrian Russell (107th).
■Meanwhile hosts Ilford had Neil Crisp finish 15th, Dianne Crisp (70th), Melinda Jones (78th), Martin Clarke (89th), Sally Gillam (92nd), Nicola Hopkinson (99th) and Billy Green (104th).
Gavin Harper was the sole finisher for Loughton, clocking 75.27 for 39th place.
