New bowlers get some instructions at a special challenge between the bowls club and the gold club at Wanstead last Friday night

Archant

Relations between Wanstead Bowls Club and the neighbouring golf club seem to be at an all-time high after the two clubs met for a friendly game of bowls last Friday on the green at Overton Drive.

It proved a great night with 48 bowlers, golfers and friends taking to the green for a game of bowls and a fish and chip supper.

The six rinks were all very close, but the winning team proved to be friends of club member Eileen Devanny, who won impressively by 18-9 on their rink to take the overall crown.

The winners received a bottle of wine each and no doubt, like the rest of those who took part, can’t wait for the next match between the two clubs.

Wanstead bowls captain Dave Brackett even suggested that the two clubs should lock horns on the putting green next and that idea will be turned into reality when it can be arranged.

It seems that both kinds of woods do go together.
