Roding Valley Triathlon member finished second overall

Roding Valley Triathlon member Claire Bloom maintained her good form this year by winning the V40+ category at the Gosfield Park event.

With temperatures above the 22°c limit, the opening swimming leg of the race was a non-wetsuit affair.

Murky water made visibility poor, so Bloom would have been pleased to exit the swim as the second women overall after clocking 15 minutes and nine seconds.

Next up for the athletes was an undulating 20k bike ride that saw winds from all directions as the mercury continued to rise.

After overtaking the race leader inside the first 2k of the second leg, Bloom finished the leg in a time of 38.45.

The final leg of the Gosfield Park triathlon was a 5k run on a hard trail, with minimal shade on the course.

With 1.5k remaining, Bloom was overtaken, but the Roding Valley member held on to cross the line in 24.54 for a combined time 80.20 and finish second overall.
