FA Trophy: Sporting Bengal United 4 Halstead Town 0

Sporting Bengal progressed into the first round of the FA Vase with a comfortable win over Halstead Town at Mile End Stadium.

Tunde Adewumi, Yacine Teladjati and Prince William were all on the scoresheet in what was an impressive win for Anwar Uddin’s side and they will be hoping for a good draw later today.

Sporting Bengal began sharply with Adewumi shooting from the edge of the box to work Halstead goalkeeper Elliot Ringe.

And the hosts spared little time in getting the scoring underway with Adewumi netting inside five minutes.

Michael Williams found Adewumi with a long ball and he powerfully volleyed into the top right hand corner.

Shortly after, the visitors responded with a chance of their own when a Nick Miller cross was knocked down to Jamie Chesney who shot over the bar.

Carlos Aoldrive squandered an opportunity to double the home side’s lead, shooting over the bar from within the box after Adewumi knocked down a Williams long throw.

And Halstead were fortunate not to have been further behind at the break with Sporting Bengal wasting other opportunities to build on their lead.

The home side continued to dominate in the second half with William cutting the ball back to Adewumi, who was unfortunate to trip just missing the ball and the opportunity of a tap in.

The visitors came close to equalising when a Jordan Hutchings free kick was met with the head of Lee Green who put his header agonisingly over the bar.

Second-half substitute Teladjati made it 2-0 on 61 minutes with a deadly finish into the bottom right hand corner after controlling a beautifully lofted pass by Josh Gonzalez which had split the Halstead defence.

Halstead Town struggled to get a grip on the game and were unable to generate any momentum in order to pressure the Sporting defence.

The home side went 3-0 up with five minutes left when Adewumi pounced on a defensive error.

Adewmui was left one on one with the goalkeeper after the Halstead defender misread the flight of a Sporting clearance and calmly took his chance and put the ball into the bottom right corner.

The home side completed the scoring with a swift counter as William attacked with pace down the left hand side, beating a defender and then curling the ball into the top right hand corner.

It was no more than Sporting Bengal deserved, having dominated the game from beginning to end, looking dangerous going forward and resolute at the back.

They turn their attentions to the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy tomorrow (Tuesday) as they visit Southend Manor.
