UPMINSTER'S four-game winning streak in London Three North East was brought to an abrupt halt at promotion-chasing Canvey.

The home side went over in the corner for an opening try, but Upminster rallied to take the lead thanks to a pair of penalties from Jamie Pavitt.

Upminster's joy was shortlived, though, as Canvey scored three tries in a 10-minute blitz to move 22-6 up.

The two sides traded penalties before the break, but the second half turned into an uphill struggle for Upminster.

The visitors showed some resolute defence to frustrate Canvey for long spells, but found it hard to gain much possession or territory of their own.

Canvey extended their lead with a converted try and penalty to move 35-9 ahead and another try in the final stages completed their tally.

Upminster are assured of finishing above the bottom three and are due to visit Wanstead in a rearranged fixture tomorrow (Saturday).
