Highams outfit recorded a 22-19 triumph away from home

Tom Redfern was happy Woodford returned to winning ways in London Two North East with a 22-19 win at Saffron Walden.

The Highams club suffered their first defeat of the season in the previous outing, going down at home to title rivals Romford & Gidea Park on November 17.

Woodford, though, were able to get back on the winning trail with their success at Saffron Walden on Saturday.

Tries from Matt Farrington, Tom Hemmings and Valerio Braconcini-Phipps helped the Highams club get the better of Saffron Walden.

And head coach Redfern was happy to see Woodford bounce back after that loss in their previous game.

“It was a good win for us as not many teams will go to Saffron Walden this season and get a good result,” he said.

“We were good in the first half, but we were a bit slow to get going in the second half before we kicked on in the final 20 minutes.

“There are things we’re happy with, but also things we know we need to work on. Expectations are getting higher every week, but we’ll take the win given the conditions.”
