Wanderers beaten 14-10 at home to Canvey Island on Saturday

Chris Smith will be hoping Ilford Wanderers can deliver an improved display at Old Cooperians in London Three Essex on Saturday.

Wanderers suffered disappointment at the weekend as they went down 14-10 at home to Canvey Island.

Ilford led 3-0 at the break after scoring a penalty, despite the visitors seeing the majority of the ball.

Canvey, though, were able to turn that possession into something tangible in the second half with two tries.

Wanderers skipper Jason Taylor crossed late on, but it proved too little, too late, much to director of rugby Smith’s disappointment.

“So far this year we have prided ourselves on our mental attitude, but unfortunately that slipped today and we were unable to give a better account of ourselves,” he said.

“Canvey’s forwards deserved the victory for a powerful performance.”

Smith will hope his side can respond accordingly on Saturday when they make the trip to Coops.
