Jamie Connors reflects on 76-12 success against Ipswich
Eton Manor head coach Jamie Connors saluted his team after an outstanding performance in London One North last weekend.
They welcomed Ipswich to New Wilderness and put in a stunning 12-try display to earn a 76-12 win.
It was their 21st league success of the campaign and takes their points tally up to 102 for the season.
But although Michael Eghan crossed over four times, it was all about the team on Saturday.
“The most pleasing thing for me was that we weren’t selfish in our play,” said Connors.
“We were always giving the pass when it was on and it is an old cliché, but 14 guys working hard for the 15th player to score a try was pretty true for us on Saturday.
“It was a spectacular performance from the boys. They had been looking forward to playing on dry ground and with the sun on their backs, and they relished it.”
Alongside four tries for Eghan, Rory Moore, Garth Tucker, John Robinson, Nick Horton, Reece Reed, Jack Tovey and Pete Bicknell also went over for Manor.
Connors was pleased with their hunger throughout as they kept scoring tries until the end.
He added: “We did put in a really good performance from the start, right up until the finish. We were 45-0 up at half time and we said we want to keep going.
“There has been a few games where we have fallen away in the second half, but they kept going.
“I think the guys really enjoyed themselves and they all had smiles on their faces, so it was a good day at the office.”
On Eghan’s individual display, Connors added: “He is always going to score tries and he got his four in about 20 minutes.
“He got bundled out at the corner flag for one that he should have converted so he could have got a couple more as well.”
London One North takes a break this week, but Connors is keen for Manor to stay focused with just four matches left and only two points separating them and top of the table Colchester.
“We are training this week and we have the weekend off, but we are going to make sure we keep everything ticking over,” he said.
