The New Wilderness club have been chosen by the RFU to have an artificial grass pitch put in place at their Wanstead home with work starting this week

It has been a good few days for Eton Manor on and off the pitch, but this weekend they will face their sternest test of 2018 to date.

Jamie Connors takes his team to local rivals Brentwood seeking a sixth successive win after beating Ruislip 41-12 last Saturday.

Manor have been impressive since returning from two weeks off over the festive time and their form has moved them up to fifth.

Victories have been achieved against Fullerians, Amersham & Chiltern, lowly South Woodham Ferrers, Diss and Ruislip over the past five weeks, but now they face the ultimate test.

Brentwood are top of the table with 85 points from their 19 London One North fixtures.

The King George’s Playing Field club have won 17 times in the division this season and put 135 points on Letchworth Garden City on January 27.

Leaders Brentwood haven’t lost since September 23 when they went down 20-15 at Colchester and they thrashed Manor 66-8 at the New Wilderness on October 28.

Connors’ team go into the game with confidence though, and have been looking forward to this fixture for a while.

After visiting Brentwood, the league takes a break on Saturday February 24 and the Manor team will know they need to summon one last big effort this weekend.

Things have not just been going well for the club on the pitch, with the New Wilderness side recently confirming some exciting news

A club statement revealed Eton Manor had been chosen by the Rugby Football Union to have an Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) put in place at their Wanstead venue.

Work was due to commence on Monday, a statement read: “The committee are delighted to announce that Eton Manor RFC has been chosen by the RFU to participate in their Rugby 365 Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) development programme.

“Work on the installation of the artificial grass pitch was set to start on February 12, with the intention of it hopefully being ready for a set of launch games on May 12. This is a very tight time frame and we are working with the RFU and SIS, the pitch installers, to ensure that the work is completed with the minimum amount of disruption to our members and the community.”

Manor will hope to keep the good times rolling on Saturday.
