Ilford Wanderers lifted the Essex Presidents Shield after a 24-0 victory against league champions Kings Cross Steelers.

After a long season the two top teams in the Essex League, slugged it out for the trophy with Ilford spoiling the Steelers unbeaten record.

The Wanderers dominated all phases but it was their aggressive defence that was key in stopping the Steelers.

Ilford got on the scoreboard after 10 minutes as a poor clearance landed in the arms of Tom Clancy who went on a run, only to be dragged down 10 metres out.

Jason Taylor was on hand to score the first of his hat trick of tries, then crashed over for his second to give Ilford a 12-0 lead at half time.

The second half ran a similar course with Ollie Bird, Billy Adlington and Taylor all touching down.

Taylor said: “That was the performance we’ve been looking for all year. I can’t say how proud I am of this team now we are playing rugby like this.”
