Haaris Sohoye of Woodford breaks through

Woodford 24

Saffron Walden 5

Woodford under-13s got their league campaign back on track with a hard-fought, but convincing 24-5 win over Saffron Walden.

They had to soak up early pressure, but after some solid defensive work, they were able to put a passage of play together as they worked the ball out wide and Arun Vaid twisted and drove over for the first score.

Haaris Sohoye then slipped through a gap to run half the pitch and score under the posts, with Michael Batt adding the conversion.

Walden came out for the second half with renewed vigour to put Woodford under pressure.

But the Woodford back row of Rhys Phillips, William Curness and Vaid stood firm against the onslaught.

Eventually Woodford scored their third try of the day when Alex Marks fed Ben Dyson who cut back inside and crossed the line.

Matt Bastick then forced his way over in the corner, though Saffron Walden did score a late consolation when they slipped through several tired Woodford tackles.

Woodford: Cannon, Carey, Chamberlain, Curness, Fay, Levy, Phillips, Tindall, Vaid, Wilkins, Yiannakou, Bastick, Batt, Dyson, Farrelly, Marks, Mead, Sohoye, Wallace.
