Highams club go in search of just a second league win of season on Saturday

Head coach Tom Redfern hopes Woodford can continue their good progress in recent weeks when they host Harlow in London Two North East on Saturday.

Despite the Highams club taking just one win so far this term, their head coach has been pleased with their recent displays.

That includes a 43-7 loss at league leaders Rochford last time out, with Redfern believing there were positive signs in defeat for Woodford.

And with the Highams outfit back at home this weekend, Redfern feels Woodford have it in them to dig out a second triumph of the term.

“Given we’re at home, it’s a game we’re really looking forward too and we’re looking to take the positives from the loss at Rochford into this weekend,” said Redfern.

“We’re playing better despite the results and we’re starting to string good performances together.

“Hopefully we can get the win I know we’re capable of and we’ll play Harlow on merit as, like everyone in this league, their team can change from one game to the next.”

Against Rochford last week, Woodford gave a dogged display against a side who many in Two North East believe could play two divisions higher.

William Cooper-Rendu crossed for the Highams side’s sole try in that game, with Redfern adding the extras from the tee.

And the player/coach said he was happy with how his team got on against a team many have struggled against this term.

“It was a spirited display from us and it’s one of the least points Rochford have scored in a game this season, so we’re happy with our defence,” he added.

“We never gave up. We talked before the game about resilience and being proud in our display, and we did that.”
