Motormen joint-boss thrilled as late show downs Wroxham

Redbridge joint-manager Dave Ross believes the team’s come-from-behind 4-3 win at fellow Ryman North strugglers Wroxham could be crucial come the end of the season.

The Motormen struck twice in time added on to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to draw within two points of safety and the Yachtsmen.

Reside Coxi Sebastfao put the visitors in an 18th-minute lead before the hosts hit back through Nathan Stone six minutes later.

Charlie Portway put the visitors back in front 14 minutes after half time, but Jamie Forshaw and Jack Garrod struck in the 64th and 65th minutes respectively to give Wroxham the advantage.

But Sebastfao levelled things up in stoppage time before Portway also made it a brace a minute later to give the Motormen an unlikely win and one Ross knows could prove the difference.

“It’s a massive result because it lifted us off the bottom and also drew Wroxham back into the relegation fight,” said Ross.

“When you’re in the 90th minute at 3-2 down, you’re only thinking about getting a point, but when the equaliser went in we did think ‘what if?’ and it’s a fantastic bonus to get the win.

“It was an exciting game and the goals we conceded were soft, but all that matters at the end is the result and we won.”

It looked unlikely Redbridge would take anything from the long trip to Norfolk as the game ticked into time added on before their late show rescued the win.

And Ross was quick to praise his team’s attitude and determination following the victory, knowing it could help the Motormen in their bid to stay up.

“They have great belief in their ability and it was good for the boys to get braces as it will boost their confidence,” added Ross.

“We went there confident about our chances off the back of the cup win at Wingate & Finchley who are a very good side. We seemed comfortable at 2-1 and even had a chance to go further ahead.

“When they equalised and then took the lead, we wondered if it was to be our day, but the boys battled back brilliantly and it definitely made the journey back a lot easier!”
