Great Britain triathlete Claire Bloom, from Buckhurst Hill, picked up two awards after an excellent 2016

RG Active Race Team Essex held their awards evening last Friday at the Maylands Golf Club and enjoyed a wonderful celebratory night.

The club, who compete at all triathlon distances as well as duathlon and aquathlon, had a fantastic turn out and raised money for charity from their raffle.

A dinner and disco was also enjoyed by all on the night and there were several people that picked up more than one award.

Buckhurst Hill’s Claire Bloom won the award for best Hill Climb Champs at High Beech in the female category and took the Sprint Triathlon award from the Leeds Castle event.

Paul Suett won the Duathlon award for the Storm the Castle event and Elena Rowlands claimed the female gong.

Colum Sharkey (male) and Michelle Sinclair (female) picked up the Aquathlon award after an impressive time at Lee Valley.

Lee Ervin claimed the male award for best Hill Climb Champs at High Beech while Sharkey won the male category for the Sprint Triathlon at Leeds Castle.

Christine Strathmann picked up the female award from the Olympic Triathlon at Ely while Gordan Raven won the respective male gong.

Strathmann also claimed the female award for the Half Ironman event in Cowman, although nothing was awarded for the male category.

Dermott Hayes picked up the male award for the Ironman event while Cathie Jackson was recognised in the female category.

RG Active’s Athlete of the Year Coaches award went to Rachel Brittle while the athletes voted Strathmann as Athlete of the Year.
