FA Trophy: Arlesey Town 1 Redbridge 1; Tilbury 5 Barkingside 0

Redbridge ended an 11-game losing streak to earn an FA Trophy replay at Oakside on Tuesday.

Motormen put their Ryman North struggles behind them, against an Arlesey side also suffering in league action, to earn a second chance at securing the £2,500 prize money on offer back on their own turf.

The visitors had an early let-off as Nathan Olunkanmi teed up Bill Plumpton, who missed a gilt-edged chance from close range.

Plumpton went closer moments later when picked out by Christian Tavernier’s pass as, with only Jack Avery to beat, his shot came back off a post.

Avery denied Olunkanmi with a good save before the breakthrough eventually came midway through the first half when Plumpton’s cross found Jack Vasey to head home.

Motormen got a brief glimpse of goal at the other end, but Daniel Jones was off-target and Jay Knight saw his effort saved by Nick Thompson.

But Arlesey might have doubled their advantage before half time when Vasey was put through on goal, but Avery made another good stop to keep it at 1-0.

The hosts missed a couple of good chances soon after the restart and were made to pay for their profligacy on 53 minutes as Joe Gent beat two defenders and found Knight, who swept the ball home.

Buoyed by their equaliser, Motormen enjoyed their best spell of the tie but could not make it count.

Timi Dorgu produced a timely challenge to thwart Plumpton at the other end, with Avery clawing the ball away as it looped goalwards.

But Redbridge might have snatched victory late on when a good break from Jordan Cornelius saw him set up Gent, but his shot sailed over the bar.

Redbridge: Avery, Cornelius, Alexandrou, Dorgu, Ogunleye, Sackey, Gent, Jones, Knight, Coxe-Seastfao, Drake (Ogboin). Unused subs: Good, Dobson, Parish, Parker.

*Barkingside were dumped out of the Trophy by Ryman North rivals Tilbury after conceding five times in the last 17 minutes of their tie at Chadfields.

Dockers had beaten Redbridge 4-1 in league action in midweek, while Gursel Gulfer’s men were falling to a 4-0 defeat at Cheshunt.

But the scoreline remained blank until the 73rd minute when Harry Cook finally put the home side in front.

Daniel Glozier doubled Tilbury’s advantage from the penalty spot seven minutes later and Tony Martin made it 3-0 on 84 minutes.

Shellshocked Barkingside saw Emiel Aiken get his name on the scoresheet three minutes later and Martin completed Tilbury’s nap hand with his second in the last minute of normal time.

Barkingside will now switch their focus back to Ryman North action and look to end a run of three straight losses when they welcome Maldon to Cricklefield Stadium on Saturday.

Barkingside: Behcet, Adebayo, Wright, Nikolaou, Bunga, Wren (Abitogun 88), Nzengo, Spencer, With (Scarlet 72), Kaisikas (Lataaya 48), Ogedi-Uzokwe. Unused subs: Gray, Heard.
