Hockey men are second after first round of matches

OLD LOUGHTONIANS men made an unbeaten start to their National Indoor Premier Division campaign with two wins and two draws at Bristol last weekend.

The outdoor season’s winter-break has kicked in and with Loughts currently third in the Conference East table, their excellent start to the indoor competition leaves them challenging on both fronts.

The Chigwellians took on Canterbury in their first match on Saturday, winning 9-7 to secure three points, and completed the perfect start later in the day with a last minute winner against Surbiton securing a 3-2 win.

Beeston were Loughts first opponents on Sunday and it took a last minute goal from James Stedman (pictured right) to secure a 3-3 draw.

A busy weekend was completed with a final match against Reading, which Loughts dominated early on and raced into a three-goal lead, but fatigue soon set in and Reading battled back to earn a 3-3 draw.

The second round of matches take place on the weekend of January 15 and 16, with Loughts currently second in the league table.

The top four will qualify for the National Indoor Finals to be held at Wembley Arena on January 30.
