Ford Sports’ Bill Nelson is after more of the same from himself and Charlie Butcher as they go in search of Eastern Counties pairs glory this weekend.

Nelson and Butcher, a sub for Glyn Walls, produced a great performance to see off Hertfordshire’s Andrew Briden and Danny Macro 24-13 in the quarter-finals.

And fresh off the back of that, Nelson remains confident of their hopes on finals day at Dereham St Nicholas on Saturday, where they face either Cambridgeshire or Huntingdonshire for a place in the final.

“On each occasion that we’ve played together we have always done well, including the great quarter-final win over an ex-England international and Middleton Cup winner,” said Nelson.

“Hopefully we can keep up the good work, but when you get to this stage of the competition you expect the semi-final to be tough.”

Nelson’s involvement in the Eastern Counties means he misses out on representing Fords in the London Parks Pairs and Four finals, something which disappoints him.

“It’s frustrating that I have had to give up my spot in those finals considering I’ve been involved in all the other rounds of the competition.”
