London One North: Eton Manor 24 Chingford 8

Eton Manor scored three second half tries to come from behind to beat rivals Chingford at the New Wilderness on Saturday in the London One North.

The win for Jamie Connors team kept up the pressure on league leaders Colchester, but they didn’t secure their bonus-point success until late on.

In the end Nick Cooper-Hicks, Reece Reed, Michael Eghan and Garth Tucker crossed over to secure an impressive victory for the hosts.

The visitors started strongly and went ahead after only three minutes of action after forcing the home side into a succession of errors.

Manor were missing key personnel throughout injury and unavailability and it soon got worst when Jack Knowles had to leave the field with a suspected dislocated elbow.

Connors team were growing in confidence though and enjoy most of the possession and territory, but were struggling to break Chingford down.

However they did finally get on the scoreboard with eight minutes remaining in the half following a pushover try.

After the referee awarded Manor a penalty in front of the posts, they turned down the easy kick and opted for a scrum. That allowed Cooper-Hicks to score and the conversion was successful to give the hosts a 7-5 lead.

But a silly penalty allowed Chingford to kick an easy three points and give them an underserved lead at the interval.

It didn’t take Connors side long to be camped inside the oppositions half and Reed put them ahead with a trademark try after breaking down the blindside.

The conversion went wide, but Manor lead 12-8 with plenty of time to get two more tries which would earn them a crucial bonus point win.

Chingford forced the hosts to defend for a significant amount of time after that score before the New Wilderness outfit responded with the forwards dominating.

And with 10 minutes left Connors team scored their third try through Eghan to almost certainly put the game to bed.

It was Manor’s scrum that was the dominant force, driving Chingford backwards, before Reed went on the blindside and fed Eghan to stroll over.

The conversion was missed so it was 17-8 going into the final exchanges of the game, but the away side again looked to get back into the game.

Harry Tustanowsky prevented a Chingford score with a copy book tackle and earned his side a scrum, which enabled them to move further up the pitch following more good work by Reed.

A lineout just outside the away 22 enabled Reed to get on the ball, he spun out wide to Chris Jones who drew his man before finding Tucker.

He sliced through the middle of the Chingford defensive and wrong footed the last defender for a well executed try that gave Manor the bonus point win.

It was a comfortable victory for the New Wilderness outfit with the forwards dominating and helping earn a 18th win of the campaign.
