Wanstead captain Chris Luxmoore says the 77-0 thrashing of Clacton was required following defeat to Sudbury in their last match.

In their previous match, the Herons lost 27-12 away to table-topping Sudbury but back on home turf they ran riot.

Paul Pritchard and Jacob King both grabbed braces leaving Luxmoore pleased with the way his side bounced back.

“It’s something we needed after the Sudbury game. To get a result like that against Clacton, who fought well, will be a good boost ahead of our remaining fixtures,” said Luxmoore.

“The weather helped us. Everyone wanted the ball. There was a lot of carrying from all players with some great offloads. We seem to be a better side in the warmer months.”

The result leaves the Roding Lane club sixth in the table with 48 points.

Just three games remain for Wanstead in the league this year and Luxmoore is starting to look to the next campaign.

“We’re targetting three wins from our last set of matches which will give us a good buzz going into pre-season,” he added.

“We should have won a lot more games but due to injury and the execution of plays at crucial times it hasn’t been the case.”
