Goshin Isshinryu members celebrate their success


Ilford students were among the silverware at the Karate Championships in America.

Seven youngsters from Goshin Isshin-Ryu Karate Association brought home 19 trophies and a medal in categories such as individual Kata, Weapons Kata and Sparring.

The biennial International Karate competition, which was held in Augusta, Maine, hosted more than 600 athletes from across the world.

The Ilford-based club made an inspiring debut at the international tournament by making their presence felt and causing a big upset by performing exceptionally well against tough competition.

They also were guided and motivated by the chief instructor Sensei Ramathas during the competition.

The team was made up of Sriraam Gunaratnarajah, Danesh Jayaprakash, Agaliyan Nageswaran, Nithursan Thuishyanthan, Thiviaan Kuganathan, Aathirran Ramathas and Jahnvi Sundeep.
