ROMFORD HURRICANES came out on top after a hard-fought under-14s encounter in Guildford.

Olegs Lascenko set up Jake Sylvester to put the visitors ahead in the fourth minute, but Guildford hit back to take the lead early in the second period.

Glenn Billing and Jack Cripps-Cooper combined on a Romford powerplay to set up Mason Brownlie, who then linked up with Lascenko to create a chance for spirit of the game winner Brandon Ayliffe to make it 3-2.

Ayliffe and Sylvester combined to set up Billing for Romford's fourth and they held on for victory, despite Guildford's late reply.

ROMFORD HORNETS found under-16 rivals Peterborough too strong as they slipped to a 6-0 defeat.

The hosts took an early lead and were 3-0 up at the first break, netting twice more before Romford's Ross Georgallides and Jack Brobst were given match penalties for a fight.

Peterborough scored a shorthanded sixth as Denis Bell-Blake faced 48 shots in total and rival Dan Lane saved 29 for his shutout. Billing was Romford's man of the match.
