Holder Barham still in Group 5 two-wood

It’s Barham v Quy in pick of quarter-final ties
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Group 5 Two-wood competition has been completed and there are eight players left all capable of lifting the trophy.
Brian Powell of South Woodford was in stunning form in his second round tie as he swept aside the challenge of John Curtis to win by a whoppingt 21-1, which earned him a quarter-final tie against Steve Welsh of Wanstead Central who managed a 21-9 victory over fellow Central bowler Phil Fagelson.
Central’s John Cook was equally impressive in the second round as he demolished John Durrant by an impressive 21-3 and he will now play Steve McKay, who saw off the challenge of Brian King by 21-9.
It was a round for big wins. Jerry Quy of Aldersbrook made short work of Wanstead’s Bob Lockyer by 21-4 to continue his fine form.
He will now take on holder Peter Barham from South Woodford in what looks the tie of the round.
The other quarter-final will see Mervyn Gilbert of Woodford take on Colin Jones of Wanstead Central after Gilbert was given a bye, while Jones had a walkover against Les Weedon.
The quarter-final ties must be played by Saturday, July 15.
