Members pick up medals at British Schools’ event
Heart Of Oak Judo Club took its core membership to compete at the London Area qualifier for the British Schools’ National Championships at the University Of London’s SportsDock.
And the girls’ team came away with an impressive haul of medals, thanks largely to the Anegbeh sisters, who represented Palmer Catholic Academy.
Angel and Mercedes Anegbeh both won gold medals, while Summer took a silver medal with sister and team captain Crystal, who also fought in the impressive heavyweight division to secure a bronze medal.
Clubmate Peach James won a gold for Havering Sixth Form College and the Heart of Oak boys fought just as hard.
Brothers Musa and Dawd Bukhari from Issac Newton Academy raised their game against more experienced competitors, but just missed out on podium places.
Captain Morgan James (Palmer Catholic Academy) toughed it out to finish third in his pool, but again the competitiveness of this high profile qualifier meant he missed out on the medal round.
Peach James returned the next day, though, to compete in the British National London Colleges and University Open, which attracted competitors from all over the country, including Cambridge, Oxford and Edinburgh among others.
And James was able to rise to the challenge to bring back another silver medal to complete a fine weekend for the Heart of Oak stable.
