The Premier Handball League opens with a London double-header between two of the best handball teams in the country: Newham-based London GD and Leyton’s Olympia.

Saturday’s curtain-raiser pits last season’s quadruple champions London GD against Olympia in a London double-header.

GD achieved a clean sweep of both men’s and women’s Premier Handball League titles last season, as well as both National Cup titles.

Olympia women, who finished fifth in the league last season, will be aiming to draw first blood from GD who were unbeaten in the women’s league last season.

The men’s match will be a contest between first and second from last year’s league. Olympia will be out for revenge after the teams finished equal on points but GD winning the title on goal difference.

Both clubs will be looking to draw first blood in the 56-match season, which concludes in April.

The London derby will be played on Saturday at the Leyton Score Centre. The women throw-off at 2.30pm followed by the men at 4.30pm.
