Side boss backs team to resurrect their survival hopes with a Good Friday win

Barkingside boss Gursel Gulfer is hoping to get his Easter weekend off to a good start when his team travel to Thamesmead Town tomorrow (Friday).

The match south of the river is the first of a double header for Side, with the club hosting Ryman North relegation rivals Romford on Monday.

Tyrone Scarlett could return for Gulfer’s men against the Mead after rejoining the club following a prolific spell earlier in the season.

But even if the striker does not make his second debut, Gulfer has backed his team to get the right result for a boost over the Easter period.

“The players are not doing bad and I know we could get a win at Thamesmead,” said Gulfer.

“As I’ve said so often in recent weeks, we’re not afraid of anyone and I don’t see any reason why we can’t beat Thamesmead.”

Side are then in action at home on Easter Monday as they host fellow strugglers Romford.

The Cricklefield Stadium club are offering free Easter eggs to all children in attendance, as long as an email is sent to beforehand.

And Gulfer hopes that Easter promotion leads to a bumper crowd that can cheer his team on to a vital victory.

“I imagine we will get a good gate on Monday because we are one of the first teams playing,” he added.

“Hopefully it is a nice day with the weather and we can get a gate of over 200 watching us.

“But we have to make sure we get something from the game at Thamesmead first, and then hopefully beat Romford.”
