Under-13s slip to defeat against boys from Berlin

Despite a brave second-half fight-back Chigwell School under-13s slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat against German opponents Spandauer HTC last week.

The Berlin club arrived in Chigwell for the second match of their UK tour with a strong development squad.

Spandauer edged ahead at the end of an otherwise even first half, finally reaping the rewards for their sharpness with a quick-fire double.

A third goal soon after the restart seemingly had the German side in control, but a fantastic strike from Edgar Padfield gave Chigwell a glimmer of hope.

The home side continued to pile on the pressure and scored again following a fine team move, but ran out of time for an equaliser.

Spandauer head coach, Ralph Schhmicke, said: “It was a fantastic occasion and a great opportunity for our players.

“We hope to continue our relationship with Chigwell School in the future.”
