London Junior Football Championship, Group One: Thomas McCurtains 3-9 St Clarets 1-6

Thomas McCurtains’ men’s football team kept alive their hopes of progressing from the group stages of the London Junior Championship with a 3-9 to 1-6 win over St Clarets.

With both teams having lost their opening group stage games and knowing there could be no further slip ups if they were to progress, it made for a nervy affair.

Mark Gilsenan got McCurtains off to a flyer with a goal inside 15 minutes, though the Goodmayes club found themselves behind towards the end of the half.

Gavin Gallagher, though, ensured McCurtains went into the break with a 2-2 to 1-3 lead by punching in Gerry Flynn’s shot just before the end of the half.

At the start of the second period, Clarets scored two points to draw level, but once McCurtains got into their stride again, there was only ever going to be one winner.

The third goal came when Kevin Delahunty found the net from 30 yards in the final moments, leaving Clarets with too much to do.
