Barkingside boss angry at errors in Ware loss

Barkingside manager Matt Frew was disappointed his team’s poor start cost them in a 3-0 defeat away to Ware.

The hosts capitalised on two ‘Side mistakes in the first-half, taking a 2-0 advantage into half-time and scoring their third after the break.

Following their recent run of good form, Frew was upset with the manner of the defeat.

“Against Ware, they started better than us and were two goals up by half-time,” said Frew.

“Bad marking led to their first goal. They had two corners where we gave them a free header. We didn’t learn and from the third corner, they scored a free header.

“A defensive mix-up allowed them to score their second. We never looked like getting back into it. Nothing was going right.

“They were the better side and wanted it more on the night. My players didn’t even get out of first gear.”

The loss to Ware came after a weekend defeat to Harlow Town, a result that ended a four-game winning streak that had lifted Barkingside out of the relegation places.

After two defeats in a row, Frew is hoping his side do not return to the bottom three.

“When you go four games unbeaten and you lose one, you think it might just be a blip,” he added.

“But to lose two (consecutively), you do think ‘are we going to hit a bad patch?’. We’ve managed through good and bad times so I’m still confident we can turn it around.

“The boys will work hard in training and try to get results on the board. We’ll take each game as it comes. We’re not panicking at the moment but we’ve got to roll our sleeves up.”
