Russ Kober and Rob Dulson secured fourth place in the Hainault Roads Cycling Club’s open time-trial on the historic course north of Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday.

The event was organised by Hainault racer and Chigwell Row businessman Dulson and was open to teams from all over the country.

The course has been used for cycle racing since the 1930s and Hainault’s members fared well against some top competition in the time-trial, where teams of two took turns to make the pace.

Dulson was teamed with Forest Gate speedster Kober and recorded a fine time of 55 minutes and 26 seconds, which was good enough to take fourth place and also secure the Argee trophy for the fastest team of Hainault riders.

Dulson and Kober beat last year’s trophy winners, Ilford-based Mark Steers and Newbury Park’s Howard Staunton, who both rode valiantly to record 56.53 for eighth place, but had the consolation of winning the prize for the fastest team with an average age of over 50 years.
