OLD PARKONIANS crashed out of the Old Boys Cup at the quarter-final stage as they were beaten in extra-time by Old Woodhouseians.

The Fairlop-based outfit were again without a host of first choice starters – Dom Dowling, Mark Jamieson, James Kelly, Owen Price, Chris Sharkey and Rob Tromans – but Matt Martin, Tom Clark and Rich Tromans returned in a game that the home side were expected to win.

Parks failed to reach the level of performance they achieved the previous week against West Wickham.

Neither side turned their possession into goal threats, with both goalkeepers being largely redundant for the majority of the proceedings.

The closest either side came to scoring was from two right-foot efforts from Dave Worthington, one hitting the near post and the other forcing the Woodhouseians’ goalkeeper into a save.

Their was no improvement in the second period with neither side maintaing possession.

However, Parks then created the best chance of the afternoon on the hour mark as Jack Sykes-Wood found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a throughball from Dave Gallagher. However, the midfielder could only drag his right-foot effort narrowly past the far post.

The home side then finally made the breakthrough, after a couple of ricochets on the edge of the Woodhouseians penalty area, the ball was lashed home by Sam Fuller for his first goal in Parks colours.

Just as it appeared that the home side looked like they would gain an undeserved victory, disaster struck in the last five minutes.

A deep cross was knocked back across the six-yard box and inadvertently into his own goal by Matt Martin to force extra time

Despite some stern words at full-time, Parks showed no signs of improvement and were fortuitous on a couple of occasions as decisions went their way.

However, they were punished in the second period of extra time and despite having late chances to equalise they failed to convert.

Old Parkonians: Clark, O’Flaherty, Martin, Billingham, Rich Tromans Worthington, Gallagher, Fuller, Sykes-Wood, Morgan, Ladipo.
