There were mixed fortunes for local rivals Redbridge and Barkingside in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday.

Motormen played host to FC Clacton at Oakside Stadium and took the lead on nine minutes through Calvin Poku.

And that one goal proved enough against the plucky seasiders, as Ricky Eaton’s men booked a place in the second round, where they will face Stansted or Stanway Rovers.

Barkingside, meanwhile, made the trip out to the Essex coast to take on Thurlow Nunn League side Wivenhoe Town.

And after a goalless first half, the Dragons claimed the only goal of the tie with a deflected effort from Myles Passley.

Both sides return to Essex Senior League action this weekend, as Redbridge play host to Clapton and Barkingside welcome St Margaretsbury to Cricklefield Stadium.

Redbridge: Greene, Baffour, Blackburn (Gayer 59), Burgess, Thomas, Murphy, Smith, Nsamu, Poku, Kyungu (Hunt 69), Adelekan (Modeste 56). Unused subs: Turner, Carter.

Barkingside: Karper, Thompson, Hunwicks, Taylor-Reid, Pibworth, Laurent, Brown, Matthews, Frostick, Martens, Santos. Subs: Briggs, Warwick, McPherson, Anim, Ngegba.
