Redbridge came out on top of their local Essex Senior League rivals Barkingside with a 2-1 victory.

Two second-half goals from Shaun Harris and Calvin Poku proved to be enough despite an equaliser from Michael Ogboin at Cricklefield Stadium last night.

The first chance of the match fell to Redbridge’s Brian Moses who tried his luck from distance but his shot was comfortably held by keeper Will Hunt in the 6th minute.

Four minutes later the hosts got what looked to be a chance of their own when Jason Fontaine whipped in a superb corner but somehow missed everyone in the box.

Barkingside’s kept up the pressure as striker Michael Ogboin was put through on goal but was denied by Lewis Greene in the 15th minute.

Redbridge gave ball straight to hosts but then Barkingside’s attackers Ogboin and Fontaine found themselves offside and their attempt went wide as well in the 20th minute.

The next ten minutes neither side wanted to give an inch and the ball remained bogged down in the middle of the park between the two sets of midfielders.

It wasn’t until the visitors Moses broke through the Barkingside defence and struck a shot off the crossbar to nearly put his side in front in the 33rd minute.

Calvin Poku drilled a shot just wide from 25 yards after a Redbridge was cleared out to the striker five minutes later.

The visitors got off to a strong start in the second-hlaf dominated the opening few minutes.

It wasn’t long before Shaun Harris puts his side 1-0 up as he scrambled the ball home from close range after an Incoming found Moses whose header was denied by Hunt before finding its way to the midfielder.

They kept mounting the pressure on as winger Joshua Hutchinson volleyed a shot over the bar in the 55th minute.

Another chance for Redbridge just minutes later as Moses burst through the middle and into the box but Barkingside’s Hunt pulled off yet another vital save.

Barkingside got back on level terms when striker Ogboin slotted home from close range after a mishit shot by substitute Tony Cookey made its way across the goal and picked him out.

The hosts had the momentum and Cookey nearly put them in front as he tried driving home a shot, only to be denied by Greene in the 73rd minute.

The play soon went back down the other end of the pitch and substitute Courtney Homans nearly put the visitors ahead but he thumped his effort over the net.

Moment’s later Redbridge’s top-scorer Poku converted a chance at the back post to put his 2-1 up after a bad clearance fell to the striker in the 83rd minute.
