Ryman One North: Barkingside 0 Aveley 1

Aveley’s Petrit Elbi came off the bench to deny nine-man Barkingside a battling point at Cricklefield.

There was little between the two sides until Joe Ellul was shown his marching orders for a second bookable offence, and after that Elbi pounced to slot home the only goal of the game to give the visitors their 10th win in succession

Side ended the game with nine men though when former Aveley player Joe Bricknell was also shown a second yellow in a game littered with yellow cards for petty little infringements.

Aveley goalkeeper James Marrable was called into action after six minutes when he smartly denied at the feet of Calvin Poku, before Tim Pitman did equally as well to keep out Billy Coyne’s swerving 35 yard free-kick.

Coyne continued to test the home defence with his efforts from distance and though Pitman saved another effort, the rebound fell at the feet of Marcus Elliott, only for his strike to hit team-mate Lee Weemes flush in the belly.

Other than that, the game became very niggly with several yellow cards handed out by referee Elliott Kaye for kicking the ball away, though Ellul was cautioned for going in late on Marrable.

Chances were at a premium, and midway through the second half Ellul received his marching orders following another foul in the middle of the park, and left Matt Frew’s side facing an uphill battle.

Aveley upped the ante, but were met by some stubborn home defending until with 15 minutes remaining a long throw in from Coyne was flicked on and Elbi was there to slot past Pitman

In all, the hosts picked up seven bookings, and Bricknell found himself making an early return to the changing rooms after tugging back a Millers attacker five minutes from time.

But they still kept going and had some play in the final third before Pitman denied Weemes from a tight angle, and then Elliott saw a shot blocked by John Bricknell.

Barkingside: Pitman, Hayes, Joe Bricknell, Ellul, Ellis, Onireti, Cossington (Gulfer 78), John Bricknell, Francis (Taylor 83), Jones (Carvell), Poku.

Unused substitutes: Davie, Clark.

Attendance: 125
