Newbury Forest suffered the heartbreak of two late goals to condemn them to a 4-3 defeat at league leaders Halsted on Saturday.

The home team took the lead on twenty two minutes with a headed goal and held the lead until the 45th minute when Jason Reynolds-Blanche levelled for the visitors.

In the second half with both teams going for goals the match became like a cup tie with end to end action and Newbury took the lead in the 52nd minute through the lively Tyrell Holder.

Back came Halsted and they levelled again in the 72nd minute.

After 86 minutes Ferid Mendanovic took the ball with his back to goal juggled and swivelled to crack the ball into the top corner to restore Forest’s lead.

Then to the shock of everyone in the ground the Newbury goal scorer was shown a straight red card for over celebrating.

This action clearly deflated the Newbury side and lifted Halsted who went on to score twice in the final minutes to claim three points they never looked like getting until the bizarre sending off.

Forest now need to lift themselves for their FA Vase cup tie this weekend at the Oakside Stadium when they entertain Newport Pagnall Town.
