Errington Challenge Cup first round: Woodford Town 1 Hoddesdon Town 4

Woodford Town were knocked out of the Errington Challenge Cup after failing to build on taking the lead during their first round clash with Hoddesdon Town on Tuesday night.

The two clubs had done battle back in September and the Lilywhites triumphed on that occasion, but Dee Safer’s Woods had put together a fine run of form since.

Playing at the Harlow Arena, while work on their Ashtons Playing Field home continues, the hosts took the lead just before half time.

The Woods advantage didn’t last long, however, as Hoddesdon equalised almost straight from the kick-off to ensure it was 1-1 at the break.

With momentum now on their side, the visitors kicked on and scored twice more before the hour mark to take control of the tie.

Safer’s team pushed for a way back into the contest, but ended up conceding a fourth goal as Hoddesdon reached the second round with a 4-1 triumph.
