Leyton Orient interim head coach Ross Embleton believes Sam Sargeant is now ready to challenge Dean Brill for the number one spot, writes Jacob Ranson.
The 22-year-old has started the last two fixtures, including their 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic in League Two at the weekend, and has impressed the coach with his displays.
Brill has been seen as the clear number one choice for a long stint, but he now has competition from the youngster who has played well in all of his seven appearances this campaign.
"He's made some good stops, probably stops you'd expect 'Sarg' to make, his kicking is consistent as well," Embleton said.
"I think what we've got now is good. If I'm brutally honest Deano has always been my first choice and was when Justin (Edinburgh) was here as well after we made that change, but what we see now is there is real competition for places.
"Not just in that position with Deano and Sarg, but across the squad. You look at a number of players that haven't been involved or were on the bench.

One player who is also putting his name into contention each week on the team sheet is Cypriot youngster Hector Kyprianou.
The 18-year-old, who has come up through the youth ranks, has pushed his way into the team for the last two fixtures much like Sargeant after heavily impressing with his talent and bright future.
"I'm really excited by this boy, I think he's got huge potential, and he's one of those players that for his age shows real maturity and calmness on the ball," added Embleton.
"He's getting bigger and he's getting stronger, he is going to become more powerful the older he gets and over the coming months.
"He's going to be a real talent and I was delighted with his performance again."
The pair of youngsters could now feature more regularly as they look to dislodge their more experienced team-mates from the starting line-up.
The Leasing.com Trophy has proved vital for the duo as it has given them a chance to impress.
