Jobi McAnuff scored twice for Leyton Orient to inspire them to a stunning 3-0 win at previous National League leaders Harrogate Town.

Heading into the match, the hosts were top of the table and unbeaten, but the O’s got the better of Town with a professional display in Yorkshire to take over at the summit and remain the only side in the division yet to taste defeat this campaign.

Justin Edinburgh kept faith with the same starting XI for the eighth consecutive game at Wetherby Road.

It didn’t take Orient long to make the first punch in this early-season heavyweight clash between two clubs near the top.

After 23 minutes the visitors’ took the lead through Macauley Bonne after the main in black played a fine advantage.

Referee Marc Edwards waved play on despite James Dayton being fouled and Charlie Lee picked out Bonne, who calmly slotted home to make it 1-0.

The O’s weren’t finished there though, and doubled their advantage nine minutes before half time.

Josh Koroma did well to dribble his way into the area and although James Belshaw denied him, the ball fell for skipper McAnuff to tap in with 36 played.

It remained 2-0 until the break, but Orient needed Dean Brill to make a couple of key saves – one before the interval and soon after the restart.

Edinburgh’s men seemed in control, yet wanted a third to make the points safe and it duly arrived in the 68th minute.

Koroma again caused Harrogate problems and cut back for McAnuff to curl home and take his tally for the season to two goals.

The O’s head coach rang the changes after with James Alabi, Dale Gorman and Matt Harrold coming on before full time.

Harrogate couldn’t force a consolation, however, and so Orient secured another win and clean sheet to move into first position.

After 12 games, the E10 outfit have 26 points and lead second-placed Town by a single point ahead of Tuesday’s clash at lowly Braintree Town.

Leyton Orient: Brill; Judd, Coulson, Ekpiteta, Widdowson; Dayton, Clay (Gorman 89), Lee, McAnuff ©; Koroma (Alabi 74), Bonne (Harrold 90).

Unused substitutes: Sargeant, Happe.

Attendance: 2,584.
