Kevin Lisbie’s first-half goal was enough for Orient to record their fourth successive win of the new season at Broadhall Way.

The veteran striker glanced home a header from a Moses Odubajo cross on 27 minutes to earn a third consecutive league win for Russell Slade’s men, having also grabbed their last-gasp winner against Coventry in the Capital One Cup.

James Dunne and Nathan Clarke received yellow cards in the opening 20 minutes, in an even start, before Stevenage had the first chance of the game, as Daniel Lopez forced Jamie Jones to make a comfortable save in the 25th minute.

O’s broke the deadlock soon after as the 34-year-old Lisbie claimed his fourth goal of the campaign but they had shouts for a penalty waved away on 35 minutes when Lisbie went down in the box under the challenge of former Orient midfielder Jimmy Smith and referee Malone ignored the visitors claims for a spot-kick.

Lisbie wasted a great chance to double Orient’s lead four minutes before the break when a deep Lloyd James corner found him at the far post and he headed wide.

And the visitors went close again on the stroke of half time when Dean Cox’s cross just eluded David Mooney.

Cox had the first chance of the second half, flashing a drive wide of the near post and O’s had more penalty claims before the hour when Odubajo felt he had been tripped by Darius Charles.

And the visitors were left fuming again on 64 minutes when Lisbie went down under Chris Day’s challenge but was booked for diving.

Lopez flashed a long-range effort over the crossbar moments later and O’s had Gary Sawyer to thank for a fine tackle on Charles, before the home side saw Peter Hartley headed against the crossbar and Romain Vincelot cleared off the line.

Cox sent a curling effort over before Stevenage mounted a late rally in search of an equaliser.

But O’s held firm for another clean sheet, following their 3-0 success over Shrewsbury a week earlier to remain top of the fledgling table on goal difference ahead of Peterborough.

Orient: Jones, Omozusi, Vincelot, Cuthbert, Baudry (Sawyer 71), Cox, James (Bartley 80), Lisbie (Batt 89), Mooney, Odubajo, Clarke.
