The 48-year-old is impressed with the 23-man squad Gareth Southgate has picked and hopes they can impress in Russia

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh believes England will reach the last-eight of the 2018 World Cup.

The O’s boss spoke to EnergyBet last month about this summer’s tournament and what he expects from the Three Lions.

After a settled build-up to the World Cup, optimism is rife amongst the country about what Gareth Southgate’s team can do.

Having seen holders Germany lose their opener and Spain, Brazil and Argentina all held to a draw, England fans are getting excited about what the nation can achieve.

Southgate’s men will begin their Group G campaign tonight with a fixture against Tunisia (7pm start).

Harry Kane, once a Leyton Orient loanee, will lead the team out and Edinburgh feels the 23-man squad picked will give the Three Lions a good chance of success in Russia.

The Orient manager touched upon the disappointment of following England over the last few years, but is confident this group of players will make the country proud over the coming weeks.

“We all get over hyped and over excited,” said Edinburgh, when talking to EnergyBet about his tips for the 2018 World Cup.

“I think Gareth will go there with a belief he has a squad which has been strong throughout their club seasons and that always excites me rather than going there with people who have perhaps gone through the qualifying stages.

“It is about the here and now and the players taking form into the latter part of the season and the players playing for clubs who were pushing for European places or battling in the FA Cup semi-finals.

“I expect England to qualify from the group and I guess we all hope they can go onto the semi-final, but I think the quarter-final might be as far as they go.

“As a supporter, we all want them to win it and that is our hope and we all get excited as we build up to it, but as a child growing up more times than not I have been disappointed and felt let down at times, but hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves.”
