FA Cup extra preliminary round replay: Leyton Athletic 3 (Simpson 44, 89, James 48p) Barkingside 0

Barkingside are out of the FA Cup after a 3-0 defeat at Essex Senior League rivals Leyton Athletic in the extra preliminary round.

The initial tie between the sides had ended in a goalless draw at Cricklefield Stadium on Saturday.

The sides were finally split in the 44th minute of the replay when Brian Simpson struck for Athletic.

The hosts doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half when Dwade James scored from the spot.

And Barkingside conceded a third in the 89th minute when Simpson added his second of the match.

It was a disappointing defeat for Side, who are still on the lookout for their first goal of the term after four matches in both league and cup.

Michael Walther’s men are next in action in the league on Saturday when they entertain Enfield.

Earlier in the week, the Es added former England international Neil Ruddock to their coaching staff.
