Ryman One North: Redbridge 3 Thamesmead Town 4

Thamesmead broke home hearts as a 94th minute Richard Butler winner saw them take all three points at Oakside last night.

The Motormen opened the scoring in fine fashion when Jacob Cleaver fired expertly past former Ilford goalkeeper Rob Budd after eight minutes following a good through ball by Billy Hendy.

But the third-placed visitors came into the game as the half wore on and levelled on 33 minutes.

A poor clearance from home goalkeeper Michael Bowditch found its way to Stuart Zanone but his shot struck the base of the post, only for another former Ilford player Rob Carter to poke home.

And just four minutes later the visitors where in front when Zanone paced past the Redbridge defence and slotted low past Bowditch.

Thamesmead had their chances to extend their lead aftet the break but didn’t capitalise and were made to pay through that man Cleaver once more on 54 minutes.

A great throughball from Antony McDonald found the striker and he showed the Mead defence a clean pair of heels and though Budd got a hand to his lob there was enough pace on the ball to trickle into the net.

The visitors always looked dangerous on the attack and went in front for the second time when a ball into the box found Zanone and though his shot was blocked by Bowditch it unfortunately ricocheted for Redbridge off Zanone again and into the net.

The game then went through a quiet spell but it looked as though the Motormen had picked up a valuable point six minutes from time when a hopeful ball into the box was slammed past his own keeper by Richard Butler.

But deep into stoppage time the hosts hopes were dashed when they failed to clear their lines from a corner and Butler made amends for the own goal as he forced an effort past Bowditch to seal the three points with virtually the last kick of the game.

Redbridge: Bowditch, Laurent, Rolls, Hendy, Lemonius (Theobald 85), Yeboah, McDonald, Hayes (Reed 61), Cleaver, Skerritt, Farrell.
