Kurrant in line for third and fourth caps at end of month

Former Redbridge School pupil Jonathan Kurrant will pick up his third and fourth international caps when England’s Futsal team take on Denmark later this month.

Kurrant featured prominently in his first two appearances for his country against Switzerland earlier this year and has been rewarded with another call-up to face the Danes in two friendlies on May 25-26 at the new Mayesbrook Sports Arena in Barking.

And for the 23-year-old, who grew up in Falmouth Gardens, Redbridge, it will be nice for family and friends to be able to cheer him on.

“The first couple of caps I won were at Hereford which made it difficult for friends and family to attend,” said Kurrant.

“But with it being just round the corner it’ll be great for them to be able to come along and watch.”

The former Arsenal Youth Academy player has recently returned from a hamstring injury which kept him out of action for a couple of weeks, but he admits he is now ready and raring to go.

“After the regular league season finished recently I was keen to keep my fitness levels and preparation up so I played in a local game of football and that’s where I picked the injury up,” he added.

“I was out for a few weeks, but it is fine now. The team have just come back off a training session in Brentwood last week.

“That went really well and the team has come together and bonded closely so hopefully we continue to perform on the pitch.”

England currently sit in 90th spot in the world rankings, but Kurrant is confident they can continue to rise up the list.

“Over the last 18 months or so the team’s form has been good. We have won more than we lost and we are certainly improving,” he added.

“Hopefully I can cement myself into the team on a regular basis and help them move up those world rankings.”

Tickets are now on sale for the event and are priced at £3 for adults and £1.50 for under-16s. For more details you can call 0115 969 4615.
