Chigwell schoolboy footballer receives international cap

Chigwell School student Joshua Banfield has been presented with his international cap after representing the Independent Schools’ FA National Under-18 team this season.

Joshua, 17, was selected to go on tour to Spain where he played matches against Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid and CD Leganes.

The final match of the season saw the Year 12 student awarded his international cap after helping the team secure a 3-2 victory over Scottish Independent Schools at Nantwich FC.

Creag Lawrence, Head of Football and PE teacher at Chigwell School, said: “Joshua has worked incredibly hard over the past few years at all his sports and his efforts certainly paid off with the tour to Madrid and his international cap against Scotland.”

Joshua said: “The opportunity to play against both Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid was an experience I will never forget.

“They were technically superior but our hard work as a team saw us draw 3-3 with Athletico which was the highlight of the tour.”
