Boost ahead of Sporting Bengal fixture.

Ilford boss Allan Fenn has boosted his squad with the return of defender AJ Ashnike to Cricklefield.

Ashnike, formerly known as Olatunbosun, was with the Foxes back in their Ryman North days, but having left his post as Tower Hamlets player-manager on Sunday, Fenn snapped him up straight away.

And Ashnike, along with former Romford goalkeeper Davis Boateng, will go straight into his side for the home Essex Senior League game against bottom side Sporting Bengal United on Saturday.

“AJ is a big, strong centre half who has been at the club before and has a wealth of experience at this level.

“Tower Hamlets are suspended from the league for unpaid fines and as soon as I knew they had released him I was able to snap him up.”

The Foxes saw their trip to Greenhouse postponed at the weekend due to a waterlogged pitch, but Fenn will hope to end a three-game winless run on Saturday.

“We have played some teams down the bottom before and come unstuck, so we won’t be taking them lightly,” he added.

“We need to get back to winning ways after a poor spell ahead of what will be a tough set of fixtures in the new year.”
