Foxes boss Fenn feels prepared as sides gear up for second meeting in a week
Ilford face a familiar foe in the Essex Senior League tonight as they host Bowers & Pitsea, just six days on from their last meeting in the competition.
The two sides met in rearranged fixture at the Len Salmon Stadium last Thursday with the Foxes going down 1-0 and the visitors were left frustrated after having a goal chalked off.
Ilford will be hoping to use some of that anger from the decision going against them tonight, but boss Allan Fenn admits it is strange to be playing Bowers in the league again so soon.
“With Bowers’ run in the FA Vase, there’s a bit of a pile-up with their fixtures and I’m sure they’re not looking forward to it after being pushed hard last Thursday,” said Fenn.
“We’ll be looking to put things right and hopefully we can put a dent in their title challenge with a win tonight.”
One thing the quick turnaround in matches does allow Ilford is a chance to put what they learnt from last week’s trip to Bowers to good use tonight in a bid to get the result they want.
But Fenn believes he would have been well prepared for the threat posed by Bowers even if the sides had not met as recently as they have.
“Bowers haven’t changed from last season. They are a very direct team, physical and well organised so we know what to expect.
“We’ll have a few playerd back in contention tonight and the weather doesn’t stop it from being a good game of football.”
