Ilford bounced back from their opening day defeat to take all three points against Clapton at The Old Spotted Dog.

The Foxes suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat on the opening day to Stansted but took no time in correcting that with two second-half goals to beat The Tons.

The hosts will be disappointed to have lost after picking up a strong 1-0 victory against Tower Hamlets on the opening day of the Essex Senior League campaign.

Jonny Fowell’s side also suffered a late blow as goalkeeper Joe Phillips was carried off the pitch with an injury after a big collision.

They were then forced to put midfielder Jay Morris in goal for the final minutes of the match.

Clapton defender Eamon Payne tweeted after the match: “My thoughts are with my goalkeeper tonight Joe who suffered a horrific neck injury and I hope he pulls through #OnceATon.”

Both sides will be in FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round action this weekend as the Foxes take on Sporting Bengal United while Clapton face a trip to Woodbridge Town.
